How is it that PrettyLitter is so much lighter than most other kitty litters?
PrettyLitter’s original non-clumping formula is a clump-free litter, made of super absorbent, lightweight silica gel. Silica gel crystals are extremely absorbent, more so than other litter substrates, so you need less of it to do the same job. Traditional clumping cat litter turns urine into large clumps to be scooped out. Because the litter clumps are being frequently removed, a lot more litter is needed to keep the litter box full. This means more litter, heavier litter bags, and more trips to the store for litter products. PrettyLitter is a non-clumping formula, you only need to stir the litter and dispose of the cat feces. What do the colors indicate?
PrettyLitter’s silica cat litter reacts to the pH of your cat's urine, making it easier than ever for cat parents to track their feline friend's health. When urine comes in contact with the litter, it can turn orange, green, blue, or if there is noticeable blood present in the urine you will see red on the white litter.
When the litter is olive green to yellow, your cat's urine is within the typical range. Want to test this color? Tap water will have a similar pH and show green to yellow.
The litter turns blue when urine is more alkaline than normal and may mean a urinary tract infection, for example. Want to test your litter? Ammonia will have a similar pH and show blue.
The litter turns orange when urine is more acidic than the normal range. This may mean bladder crystals or stones. Want to test this color? Vinegar will have a similar pH and show orange.
Because our litter is white, blood in urine appears red and is easy to spot. We advise against mixing PrettyLitter with any other litter because it can affect the visibility of the color change and its performance.
Is PrettyLitter safe for my cat?
PrettyLitter was developed by a team of veterinarians and scientists specifically for cats. The litter is made of Silica Gel, which you may be familiar with from other products like food wrappings, toothpaste, and cosmetics.
How long does one bag of cat litter last?
In a household with a single cat, a 6lb cat litter bag lasts about a month before needing to be replaced. However, there are some factors that can affect consumption such as the size of the cat's litter box and how often it gets scooped and replaced. Our silica gel crystals are extremely absorbent, so you'll likely need less of it to do the same job.
How many inches of cat litter goes into the litter box?
Litter boxes using PrettyLitter should have two inches of depth to them, so the correct amount of kitty litter will vary on the size of the litter box. With PrettyLitter's absorbent silica-gel crystal formula, one fill should last an entire month for one medium-sized cat.
