Vinification and ageing

In the Middle Ages, the Hospitalitas parcel was a place of welcome for pilgrims, protected from the wind and summer sun by a cliff that is also a contact zone between two terroirs of white limestone and red marl soils. The building that once served as a shelter is no longer there, but the vines now benefit from the magical combe, and the parcel all the more illustrates the motto "sine vino, vana Hospitalitas".

The protection afforded by the cliff to the vines makes Hospitalitas, bordered by a truffle plantation, a mulberry field and an olive grove, a veritable showcase for the majestic Syrah. Here, it expresses itself differently from anywhere else, with accents of pepper and black berries, and a fresh, Mediterranean expression. Between history and culture, l'Hospitalitas embodies everything that sublimates the art of living of southern wines.

The story of a family passion for vines

Who is Gérard Bertrand?

The quest for excellence while respecting biodiversity and biodynamic principles

The birth of a passion for wine and biodynamics

It was in 1975, in the vineyards of Château de Villemajou in the heart of the Corbières region, Gérard Bertrand began harvesting grapes and discovered his passion for wine.

He perfected his apprenticeship for twelve years alongside his father Georges Bertrand.

We are now in the fourth generation of winegrowers, from Paule to Georges, then Gérard Bertrand and finally Emma & Mathias.

Gérard Bertrand is deeply attached to the values of performance and excellence learned on the rugby pitch, and is pursuing his quest to reveal the best terroirs of his region and promote them around the world.

It was in this spirit that he took over the family business at Domaine de Villemajou after the accidental death of his father in 1987. Five years later, he created the Gérard Bertrand wine company to develop a range of wines from the South of France.

In the following years, he bought the Domaine de Cigalus and the Château Laville Bertrou.

New nuggets enrich the diversity of Gérard Bertrand wines

The 2002 acquisition of Château l'Hospitalet, in the La Clape nature park between Roman Narbonne and the Mediterranean, gave Gérard Bertrand a new dimension.

Since then, the story has continued and new nuggets from the Languedoc's emblematic terroirs have enriched the vision and diversity of Gérard Bertrand wines.
